Open Letter to Premier Jason Kenney

On January 21, 2021 Doctor Deena Hinshaw stated “We are not in the clear yet. That is why no additional measures are being eased at this time. There are no changes being announced today.”
Once again, small business owners are left holding the bag. What will it take?
What will it take to be allowed to reopen their business? What will it take to be able to lawfully provide a living for themselves and for their families?
On December 11, 2020 I asked you to publicly release the metrics being used by the government to make decisions pertaining to business closures. I am renewing this call to action today.
Number of cases per day?
Hospitalization rate?
R-rate?
Test positivity rate?
A combination of the above?
Every day, additional data is released highlighting the lasting negative impacts that COVID-19 public health measures are having on small businesses. With the rollout of vaccines (presumably the golden ticket to ending business lockdowns) now significantly delayed, the government must explore alternative options to allow businesses to safely reopen.
Small businesses continue to disproportionately carry the burden of pandemic lockdown measures. In the future, these same individuals will be called upon to work long hours under increasing government red tape and taxation, all to correct the errors of their government and to rebuild this province.
Premier Kenney, what will it take to reopen small businesses?
