Open Letter to Alberta Health Officials
November 10, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Red Deer – Mountain View, AB
Throughout 2020, Albertans have made numerous sacrifices in the name of public health. These sacrifices go far beyond the obvious economic impacts resulting from shuttered businesses and lost jobs. Recent reports that highlight skyrocketing opioid deaths and decreasing mental health resulting from pandemic restrictions are very alarming.
Albertans have largely supported public health measures to date in an effort to “flatten the curve” and respect the health of others within their communities.
In recent days, there has been increased discussion regarding the possibility of further lockdowns to curb rising COVID-19 case numbers. Experts are terming these proposed two-week lockdowns as “circuit breaker” lockdowns.
As noted on the Alberta Government website, the overwhelming majority of new and active are due to “unknown” exposure within the population. If the government is not able to determine where cases are coming from, how will a “circuit breaker” lockdown impact long-term case numbers? How can you propose a solution for a problem that you do not fully understand?
Additionally, have you considered the implications of further lockdowns on small businesses who are struggling to keep their downs open? Have you considered the obvious negative impacts on mental health?
On behalf of Albertans, I am asking you to publicly release the scientific information being used by health and government officials to support further widespread lockdowns.
I respectfully request that you release all health data related to COVID-19 so that Albertans are able to make informed decisions regarding their health and the health of their loved ones.
COVID-19 is not the only issues impacting Albertans and consideration for other equally impactful issues needs to be considered before health officials implement further lockdowns.
