We are in the middle of an unprecedented time. Beyond the health impacts of COVID-19, we have seen numerous other concerns come to light within the past number of months. Although the pandemic has been deemed to be a very liquid situation, we need a plan in order to effectively move this country forward. This starts with an Economic and Fiscal Update. Beyond stating the costs associated with spending measures to date, this document should map out our way forward. As Benjamin Franklin stated, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”
As the Liberal Government is unable or unwilling to provide an economic update, I set out 10 days ago to put my thoughts together and write an Economic and Fiscal Update. While the document does not contain the detail and use of graphics seen in the 2019 Economic and Fiscal Update, I feel as though it accurately captures the costs associated with COVID-19 measures to date. It also maps out a plan forward for our country to not only address the impending financial crisis but to do so in a way that promotes reconciliation and strengthen our inter-provincial ties.
Please feel free to review the document and provide comments ahead of the Liberal Government’s proposed economic “snapshot” on July 8th.
