2021 Election Issues: Charter Rights

Open Letter to Canadians

August 30, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Red Deer – Mountain View, AB

Over the course of the previous 18+ months, government has thrown away the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in pursuit of the “common good”. As history has shown, individuals are best equipped to make decisions regarding their unique situations, not the collective. Regardless of the circumstances, government needs to respect and defend our Charter Rights. That is the purpose of government.

Charter Rights include: freedom of peaceful assembly, freedom of conscience and religion, freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, (including freedom of the press and other media communication), every citizen of Canada and every person who has the status of permanent resident in Canada has the right to pursue the gaining of a livelihood in any province, among others.

All Members of Parliament should commit to the following:

  1. I may not agree with your reason for protesting and I may not join your protest but I fully support everyone’s right to peacefully protest.

  2. I may not agree with your religion and I may not join your religious gathering but I fully support everyone’s right to attend a religious gathering.

  3. I may not agree with your line of thinking but I fully support everyone’s right to express their opinions and beliefs.

  4. I may not work in your field of employment but I fully support your right to seek gainful employment and provide for your family.

  5. I may not agree with your medical health decisions but fully support your ability to make a decision in accordance with your risk tolerance and in a manner that best protects your family.

If your Member of Parliament is not willing to put his/her career & pension on the line to defend your Charter Rights, then why should they be given the honour of representing you in Parliament?

Sincerely,

Jared Pilon

Libertarian Party Candidate for Red Deer – Mountain View, AB
