All Small Business is Essential

Dear Elected Politicians,

​

If politicians can freely decide to vacation in the tropics, shouldn’t small business owners be allowed to freely reopen and provide for their families?

​

If masks & distancing work for politicians on planes, why doesn't the same logic apply for small business owners trying to earn a living?

​

For nearly a year, Canadians have heard the phrase "we're all in this together".

​

While we might all be in the same storm, we certainly aren't all in the same boat (or airplane, whatever your preferred means of transportation is).

​

Over the course of the Christmas holidays, millions of small business owners were once again forced to shutter their livelihoods and their dreams.

​

Canadians across the country heeded orders from their elected officials and skipped Christmas traditions.

​

We were told that COVID-19 transmission rates were too high in our communities and there simply were no other options. It’s for the greater good we were told.

​

We have now learned that numerous politicians, the individuals imposing lockdown measures on Canadians, concluded that these lockdown measures didn’t apply to them.

​

Instead, as free citizens of a free country, these individuals decided based on their own risk tolerance, to travel to foreign countries in the middle of a pandemic. That is how a free society operates.

​

Small business owners should be afforded the same freedom.

​

We, the people of Canada, demand that all current lockdown restrictions imposed on small businesses across this country be immediately revoked.

​

Additionally, we demand that no further lockdown measures be brought against small businesses in the future.
